Name, version and engine
Almost every browser uses one of three engines: Blink (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Samsung Internet), Gecko (Firefox) or WebKit (Safari, and every browser on iPhone and iPad). Sites mostly care about the engine, since that decides how pages behave.
Keeping it current
Browser updates fix security holes that are actively attacked. Compare your version with the latest release; if it is more than a few weeks behind, restart the browser to finish the update.
Questions
- Why does my Chrome version end in .0.0.0?
- Chrome reduces the version in the user-agent string to the major number. The full version is available through Client Hints, shown here when supported.
